Style: Funky house
While growing up on a farm in rural Minnesota, Mustang Sally’s exposure to electronic music was limited to what she heard on the radio. She followed the likes of C & C Music Factory, La Bouche, Fatboy Slim and Moby to name a few. She moved to the Twin Cities area in 2000 for college. With the purchase of a new computer a couple years later, she began downloading everything electronic she could find and gained a new understanding and appreciation for the music. Eventually, she found friends with similar tastes in music and began to explore the Minneapolis EDM scene. After a lot of time spent dancing and observing local and international djs, Mustang Sally decided to pick up mixing as a hobby. With her strong musical background in band, choir, and music theory along with her love of electronic music, she felt it was something she would enjoy. Mustang Sally bought her first set of turntables early in 2005 and was instantly hooked. Since then, she’s spent countless hours behind the decks honing her skills.
In the summer of 2005 Mustang Sally and several friends threw a handful of house parties that she spun at. With some encouragement from those same friends, she recorded a demo mix called Discoball and began distributing it to local club owners and promoters. Mustang Sally played her first gig out at The Lounge in Minneapolis in October of 2005 and became a regular guest there. Around that same time, she entered a dj contest sponsored by Sound in Motion and Vital Vinyl. As one of the contest winners, she got the opportunity to open for Benny Benassi at Karma the first time he came to Minneapolis in March of 2006. She held a residency at Nami Sushi in the fall and winter of 2006-2007. Over the past 2+ years, Mustang Sally has played at other Minneapolis/St. Paul clubs including First Ave Vip Room, Euphoria, Mel’s Beauty Bar, Liola, Foundation Deep Lounge, Barfly, Station 4, Club Underground, and Temple as well as numerous parties including Element3l, Future:Perfect, MN Electro Sock Hop, Bipolar, and others. Mustang Sally joined Nascent Numen early in 2007 and continues to spread her love of electronic music one set at a time.
